Dozens of New Shopping Carts Stolen

Building contractor says he chained them together and locked them to the outside of a building on Main Avenue, police said.

A building contractor Monday reported 63 new shopping carts were stolen outside the future location of a Main Avenue liquor store.

Police said the representative from Straight Line Builders told them that last Friday he chained together and locked 89 carts to the building at 380 Main Ave., where the Total Wine store is being installed.

He said 63 of them were missing when he returned Monday afternoon. He valued the carts at $100 each.

The site previously housed Wine Nation and is in a shopping center that also has a Stop & Shop supermarket and a Bob's Store.

According to The (Norwalk) Hour, the new store is scheduled to open in early December.
