CT State Police Arrest 57 for DUI Over Memorial Day Weekend

That's 20 motorists fewer than last year's holiday enforcement.

Connecticut State Police nabbed 57 motorists for DUI and issued nearly 2,000 tickets for speeding over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance announced in a statement Tuesday.

The “enforcement project,” which used both traditional and non-traditional patrol cars, started at midnight Thursday, Vance said.

Troopers investigated 281 motor vehicle accidents, 59 of which included reported injury and two of which involved a fatality, Vance said. Police also issued 718 seat belt violations and 4,294 hazardous moving violations, in addition to the 1,941 citations for speeding.

“Motorists are reminded as the summer months continue to voluntarily obey all rules of the road and report any suspected drunk driver to police as this is a true emergency,” Vance concluded in the statement.

On Memorial Day Weekend 2012, Connecticut State Police ticketed 77 motorists for DUI, 1,797 for speeding, 816 for seat belt violations, while investigating 279 accidents.
