Cops Struggle with Woman Who Says She Wants to Kill Herself

A 28-year-old Norwalk woman announces she'll kill herself; in separate incidents, several burglaries were reported.

A 28-year-old Norwalk woman entered the lobby of Norwalk Police headquarters at 1:09 a.m. today with a knife and said she was going to kill herself with it, police said.

Police gave this account of the incident:

The woman then went to her jeep in the parking lot behind the station. When police caught up with her, the windows were locked and the woman started making movements that looked like she was slashing her wrists.

Police began hitting the windows hard enough to break them in order to get to her, and she began to have a change of heart: "Please don't break my window," she said, and she rolled it down.

But she repeatedly begged police to shoot her.

As Detective William Maloney began talking with the woman, other police noticed that the knife on her lap had fallen to the floor. Another police officer opened a car door and grabbed it.

The woman was taken into custody and transported to the psychiatric ward at Norwalk Hospital. Although she had made moves that looked like she was slashing her wrists, they were not cut.

Seven officers and two supervisors were involved in the incident.
