At about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Lynne Ward of Tommy's Lane in Norwalk was at , when a Darien Animal Control Officer saw she had a dog that looked like a border collie off its leash, in violation of a town regulation for that time and location at the park.

The officer approached Ward and told her he'd be issuing her a ticket for violating the regulation. Ward responded by walking away, toward her car. The officer, who was in uniform and had been operating the marked Animal Control van, followed.

The officer asked the woman for her driver's license so that he could fill out the ticket. She refused to provide it and told the officer that she would not be getting a ticket. Then Ward got in her vehicle and drove off. The officer took down her license plate number.

Ward was identified as the owner of the vehicle. Police called her, but she again refused to cooperate with the investigating officer and hung up. Darien police visited her home, where she again refused to cooperate.

Ward, 61, then was charged with interfering with a police officer, failure to license a dog and violating a town Parks and Recreation regulation regarding unleashed dogs in town parks. She is scheduled to appear June 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
