Norwalk police charged Thomas Irish, 32, of Norwalk, with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to have headlights illuminated, police said.

Officers initiated a traffic stop early Thursday morning after they noticed the car Irish was operating did not have its lights on, police said. Irish was coming from El Mexicano, according to the arrest report.

Irish told police that he had his parking lights on and that he was driving a new car. When speaking with Irish, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and that his speech was slurred, police said.

Irish then admitted to having three beers at El Mexicano, police said.

He was issued a $1,000 bond. Irish is due in court May 17.
