Common Council President Struck By Lightning
Richard A. McQuaid remains in Norwalk Hospital for observation.
Common Council President Richard A. McQuaid remains in this afternoon after being struck by lightning Monday night.
“I don’t remember anything,” he said from his hospital room during a brief phone interview.
The incident was reported at his Silk Street home at 9:56 p.m. A powerful thunderstorm was passing over Norwalk at the time.

Police spokesman Lt. Paul Resnick said when the call came in McQuaid was described as conscious and alert.
McQuaid, 56 and a Republican, has been a member of the council since 1993, with a two-year break beginning in 2001. He is running for the office of town clerk.

A lawyer, McQuaid is employed by the Board of Education at Naramake Elementary School as an intervention specialist.
Asked about having nine lives, McQuaid quipped he’s down to eight.
