Police: City Man Stopped After Speeding Past Patrol Officer

Fails field sobriety tests; doesn't comply when asked to have his blood-alcohol content measured, police said.

A city man was accused of driving while intoxicated early Tuesday morning after he sped past a police officer on patrol near the intersection of Van Buren and Belden avenues, the officer reported.

Police spokesman Lt. Praveen John said the officer, Justin Bisceglie, was able to catch up to the car and get the driver to stop. Bisceglie found the driver had slurred speech, glassy eyes and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, John said.

Biscelgie reported when he asked the driver to exit his car to perform field sobriety tests, the man stumbled and needed to hold onto his car to remain standing. He said the driver failed the tests and was taken to police headquarters.

Bisceglie said the driver, Roman Dolezel, was non-compliant when asked to breathe into a machine that measures blood-alcohol content.

Dolezel, 42, of 20 Bayview Ave., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive in a proper lane, and failing to have tail lamps. He was held on $500 bond and given a court date of June 28.
