City Man Faces Drug Charges After Reportedly Behaving Oddly [Update]

A city man was arrested Wednesday morning after acting violently, according to police, perhaps because he was under the influence of narcotics.

At 9:13 a.m., an employee of Al’s Liquor Warehouse at 617 Connecticut Ave. called police to report a man in the parking lot banging on parked cars.

The man drove away before officers arrived, but then a call was received from Brookside Elementary School about a man in the parking lot displaying peculiar behavior.

The first officer to arrive said he observed a man throw a hub cap across the lot.

Police handcuffed the man, identified as Malvin Marquez, 29, of 3 Raymond St.

In his car they allegedly found a total of 8 1/2 ounces of marijuana distributed in small plastic bags, and 60 pills of oxycodone, a synthesized opioid drug prescribed for reducing pain.

Officers said they also found another type of pills in the car they didn’t identify.

Marquez was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

Marquez was charged with committing numerous drug-related crimes including possession of a hallucinogen or more that four ounces of marijuana, possession of narcotics, illegal manufacture, possession or sale of narcotics, failure to keep a prescription drug in its original container, and possession and sale of narcotics near a school.

Police set his bond at $50,000 and gave him a court date of Aug. 18.

Beauty Salon Burglarized

The owner of the Artistic Image Hair & Nail salon at 49 1/2 East Ave. told police on Wednesday the store was burglarized sometime after it closed late afternoon on Saturday and reopened Wednesday morning.

The owner said some cash was taken from the cash register.

Police said there were pry marks on the frame of the front door.

AT&T Store Loses Laptop to Burglar

Police on Thursday responded to a 2:50 a.m. report of a burglar alarm activated at the AT&T store at 584 Main Ave. and found a front window smashed in.

An employee of the store said the only thing missing was a laptop that didn't contain any confidential or personal information.

Lawn Equipment Stolen From Residence

A homeowner at 58 Plattsville Ave. reported Wednesday morning losing lawn care equipment in a burglary.

A window was broken, and the homeowner said a lawn mower, two weed wackers and two backpack blowers were taken.
