From Surf & Turf to Jail & Bail

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The manager of the Stop & Shop supermarket on Connecticut Avenue reported Sunday afternoon that a man attempted to shoplift a bag of shrimp and two steaks.

He told officers he and the seafood department manager stopped the man outside the store. He said the suspect then pushed a store security agent and resisted being held.

An officer reported at first it was thought the suspect was drunk, but then it allegedly was determined he had been smoking marijuana.

Christopher Cannizzaro, 52, of 122 Cedar St., was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree breach of peace, sixth-degree larceny, and possessing less than four ounces of marijuana.

Cannizzaro was held on $2,000 bond and given a court date of Sept. 2.

Woman Passes Bad Check

A Spring Valley, NY, woman was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly trying to cash a bogus check.

The manager of the TD Banknorth branch at 184 Main Ave. said the invalid check amounted to $1,200.

Police said the suspect claimed a man had given her the check to cash. The woman had opened a checking account at the bank two days earlier.

Venee A. Hanley, 22, was charged with second-degree larceny, third-degree forgery and criminal attempt at criminal impersonation.

Hanley was held on $12,000 bond and given a court date of Aug. 26.

Assault Outside Washington Street Club

Early Sunday morning a woman reported to police she had been attacked by another woman after leaving a SoNo nightclub.

The victim said she had gotten into a dispute with the woman inside the Episode Nightclub and Ultra Lounge, 112 Washington St. She reported that after leaving the club the other woman jumped her and punched her.

An officer reported her dress was ripped, and she had a bump over her left eye and scratches on her cheeks.

Man Reports Being Punched Inside Saloon

A man contacted police at 2:13 a.m. Sunday to report he had been assaulted by several patrons inside the Black Bear Saloon, 80 Washington St.

An officer reported the man was bleeding from the nose and had a bump on his head.

The victim said he had no idea who his assailants were.

Side-by-Side Car Thefts

Next door neighbors on East Rocks Road reported Sunday their cars had been burglarized.

At 11:14 a.m., a resident of 4 E. Rocks Rd. reported someone entered an unlocked car and stole a pair of sunglasses. The trunk also was opened but nothing was taken.

At 12:04 a.m., a resident of 5 E. Rocks Rd. reported an unlocked car was burglarized. Approximately $15 in cash and coins was talen.

GPS Unit Stolen

A resident of 33 Winfield Ct. Saturday evening reported a car navigation unit was taken from an unlocked car.
