Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Norwalk Police Department wants to make it happen for all those interested in law enforcement. The department is hosting a Citizens Police Academy.
It's a 10-week program that will give Norwalk residents the chance to find out about the city's police department. Students will learn about firearm safety and training, K-9 unit, and computer crime investigations. Those who sign up will also get the opportunity to ride along with police officer while he or she is on duty.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and there will be a simple background check. Those with felony, class A or class B misdemeanor convictions will not be accepted into the program.

Classes start Jan. 23 and end with a graduation ceremony on April 2. The classes will be held Monday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the community room at Norwalk Police headquarters, 1 Monroe St.
Residents can apply until Friday, Jan. 13. Only 25 spaces are available. Interested persons may contact the Community Services Division at 203-854-3150.
