Man Sentenced After Drug Probe in Norwalk & Area

The 38-year-old man was sentenced in federal court after an investigation into drug selling in Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport.

As a result of a joint federal-local investigation into drug sales in Norwalk, Brideport and Stamford, a 36-year-old Bridgeport man was sentenced in federal court Friday.

Sean Thompson was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport to about one month in prison -- time already served -- and five years of supervised release, including the first eight months in home confinement, for his role in the drug trafficking ring in southwest Connecticut.

He was one of 20 people arrested as a result of the 2012-2013 "Operation There It Is" investigation involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, Stamford police, Norwalk police and police in other area communities.

Here's most of a news release about Thompson's sentence from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Connecticut:

Thompson was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service during his supervised release. This matter stems from “Operation There It Is,” a six-month wiretap investigation spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad.

As a result of the investigation, a total of 20 individuals have been charged in federal court with various narcotics offenses related to the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized more than $100,000 in cash, 500 grams of cocaine, 350 grams of crack cocaine, several vehicles and jewelry.

According to court documents and statements made in court, between December 2012 and February 2013, Thompson regularly purchased ounce quantities of powder cocaine from a co-defendant and distributed it in smaller amounts to customers in the Bridgeport area.

This matter is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force -- which is composed of members of the Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Milford, Westport, and Stratford Police Departments, and the Connecticut State Police -- and the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad.

The United States Marshals Service also assisted in the arrests of several of the defendants. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Karwan and Robert Spector.
