Two Accused of Fighting Outside South Norwalk Grocery

Police say one was reportedly carrying a tree branch or stick while the other had a sharp object.

Two men were arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly getting into a fight that resulted in both being injured.

Police were dispatched to the Alexa Grocery store, 133 South Main St., on a report of a stab wound victim being there.

When officers arrived they found a man, later identfied as Roberto Landrau, outside the store with a gash to his scalp.

Officers obtained a description of the man who allegedly cut Landrau's scalp and began searching the area. A short time later, an officer reported he was holding a man on Woodward Avenue fitting the description.

Landrau was taken to where the man was being held, and he confirmed the man was his assailant, police said.

That man, later identified as Juan Jimenez, was put in a patrol car.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Cotto said Jimenez told officers he was walking on South Main Street when he spotted Landrau approaching him holding a tree branch or a stick. He said Landrau struck him with the object he was holding.

He denied stabbing Landrau, Cotto said.

According to officers' reports, Landrau said they had fought over money and Jimenez used some type of sharp object to cut his scalp.

Cotto said witnesses told officers Jimenez was the aggressor in the confrontation.

Jimenez had a cut on his lip and complained of pain in his back and neck.

Both men were taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. Cotto said Landrau's wound required three staples to close.

Afterwards, Jimenez, 36, of 21 Taylor Ave., and Landrau, 52, of no fixed address, were charged with second-degree assault.

Both were held on $1,000 bond and given court dates of March 14.
