Area Man Arrested For Auto, Credit Card Theft

Norwalk Police arrested Bridgeport man in connection with auto, credit card theft.

Norwalk Police arrested a Bridgeport man on a warrant Tuesday for illegal activity that occurred back in October.

Stephen Martin, 39, of 126 Nutmeg Street in Bridgeport, was charged after allegedly stealing a vehicle and credit cards from a Norwalk fitness center.

According to the police report, a Hyundi Santa Fe, was reported stolen on October 12 from 29 North Main Street between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

On October 13, police officials tried to pull the car over, which was being driven by a male with a female passenger next to him. While in pursuit of the vehicle, police officials observed the driver pushing the female out of the car. Police attended to the female, who turned out to be Gabriella DeVito, whom after a search, was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia.

The following day, October 14, police found the stolen car which was located at 74 Osbourn Avenue. According to the police report, the owner of the vehicle said there was a computer in the car at the time it was stolen on October 12. The computer was missing when police discovered the car.

During their investigation, police discovered credit card receipts that did appear to belong to Martin. Police officials matched the names and numbers to credit cards that were reported missing from LA Fitness at 761 Main Street.

Martin was charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Larceny (6th-degree)
  • Larceny (3rd-degree)
  • Credit card theft
  • Illegal use of credit card

Bond was set at $45,000. Martin is due in court on January 19.
