Accident Closes One Lane of Merritt Parkway in Norwalk

The right lane and shoulder of the Merritt Parkway closed earlier this morning due to a one car accident, has been reopened.

The responded at 6:15 a.m. Friday to a one-care accident on the Merritt Parkway between exits 40 and 41 northbound. A car appeared to have spun out due to weather conditions, went off the road and struck a tree on the driver’s side, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle was extricated by firefighters and a child in a car seat was taken to , officials said. Their conditions appeared to be non life threatening, according to Deputy Chief Edward Prescott. The Norwalk Fire Department said that the passenger was uninjured and refused treatment. Westport EMS also assisted at the scene with patient care, officials said.

The right lane and shoulder were closed for a half an hour while crews worked. An Engine, Rescue and Command Car responded along with State Police, and medical personnel, officials said.
