A Toppled Tree Causes a Multi-Car Crash on the Merritt

No serious injuries resulted from the tree falling on the northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway on Sunday evening in Westport.

A tree fell across the northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway Sunday night, causing a multi-vehicle accident, according to the Westport Fire Department.

In a news release, Asst. Chief Robert Kepchar said firefighters were dispatched at 10:27 p.m. to the accident, which was located between exits 42 and 44.

Kepchar said the tree landed on several cars. No serious injuries occurred and all of the cars' occupants declined being taken to a hospital, he said.

Firefighters had to cut apart the tree to remove it from the roadway. They also cleaned up fluids leaking from the vehicles.
