A man entered the 7-Eleven store at 247 Main Ave. shortly after 4 a.m. Monday and announced a robbery.
Police said the man told the lone clerk in the store he had a gun, but didn't display it. He demanded all the money in the register, which the clerk gave him.
The Danbury Branch of Metro-North's New Haven Line runs past the back of the store, and an employee from a nearby Dunkin Donuts told an officer he saw a man running south down the tracks. Officer Garrett Kruger and his dog, Kimbo, tracked the robber's scent along the tracks to Jefferson Street, where the dog lost the track.
Det. Sgt. Thomas Roncinske said the robber is a black male in his early- to mid-30s, 5-foot 7-inches tall, medium build, clean shaven. He was wearing a black ski cap and may have dredlocks, Roncinske said.
Roncinske said the robber left "evidentiary material" behind, but declined to say what it was.
