The stabbing apparently did occur on the grounds of Benjamin Franklin School, as the victim told police, Murphy said, although police were initially skeptical of the victim's account. But the account police got from the arrested boy was different from the one given by the boy who was stabbed in the chest.

The stabbed boy said he was confronted with two males, one with dredlocks over his face who stabbed him.

The arrested boy said he was walking through the school grounds when more than one male confronted him, including the boy who was stabbed.

The confrontation "does not appear to be a robbery," Murphy said. "Whether it's gang-related or not, we cannot confirm at this time," he said. "The case is still under investigation.

The arrested boy was automatically put in mandatory custody at Mead Hall juvenile detention center in Bridgeport without bond, as is done in juvenile arrests, Murphy said. The boy's arraignment was scheduled to take place in juvenile court in Bridgeport, he said.
