Mayor Dan Drew Calls on Tom Foley & John McKinney to Return State Contractor Contributions
Middletown, CT - Today, Middletown Mayor Dan Drew called out Tom Foley and John McKinney for their hypocrisy on fundraising and called on them to return campaign contributions from state contractors. Tom Foley and John McKinney have grabbed headlines by repeatedly attacking the Connecticut Democratic Party for legally raising money and demanding the party return certain contributions. But an article in yesterday's Hartford Courant, GOP Candidates Accept Contractors' Money, Too, After Blasting Democrats, revealed that Tom Foley and John McKinney have accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from prohibited state contractors.
"I'm calling on Tom Foley and John McKinney to explain why they accepted contributions from state contractors at the very same time they were attacking Democrats for raising money legally," said Mayor Dan Drew. "Both of them should immediately return the thousands of dollars they've taken from banned state contractors; failing to do so would be an explicit example of hypocrisy."
"I've called out Mr. Foley before for his lack of credibility, but both Tom Foley and John McKinney have now made it clear that they're willing to say and do anything to get elected -- even if it means engaging in behavior they pretend to despise."
