Obituary: Philomena Gribosky, 92, Devoted Wife & UCONN Fan

Philomena Gribosky, 92, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

 

Philomena Gribosky, 92, wife of the late Stephen J. Gribosky, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 30, 2012.  She was born in Cervinara, Avellino, Italy on May 14, 1920, daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Letizia Borreca Buccieri. 

Philomena immigrated with her family to the U.S. in November of 1921 and was a graduate of Norwalk High School, Class of 1938.  She met her future husband Stephen and they were married on her birthday in 1949.  Philomena worked with her husband for many years in his upholstery shop.  She was a longtime member of St. Mary Church in Norwalk and a devoted fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen J. Gribosky, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Sandy Hook, and Philip S. Gribosky of Norwalk. Also surviving is a brother, Domenick Buccieri, sisters-in-law Barbara Capuano and Gloria Buccieri, brother-in-law John Gribosky, and many nieces and nephews.  She was also predeceased by her brothers Frank, Joseph and Anthony Buccieri.     

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 9:30 AM at St. Mary Church, 669 West Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.  Philomena’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.  Memorial donations in her name may be made to a favorite charity.  For directions or to leave an online condolence, please go to magnerfuneralhome.com.
