Obituary: Phyllis C. Murphy, 96

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 11 AM at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan, with Msgr. William Scheyd celebrating the mass.

Phyllis C. Murphy, age 96 of Rocky Hill and former longtime Norwalk resident, died at her home on Thursday, October 17. She was the wife of the late Peter J. Murphy. Phyllis was born in Chicago on August 18, 1917, the daughter of the late Felix and Antonina Skawinski.

She lived in Norwalk for most of her life. A fiercely independent and hard working woman, she was employed as a nurse’s aide at Norwalk Hospital until she turned 75 and was loved and respected by all her co- workers. Phyllis was beloved by all who knew her for her selflessness and dedication to loved ones. Having raised 5 children largely on her own, Phyllis's life was an inspiration to her family and friends.

In her retirement, her loyal friend Lily, a Maltese terrier, never left her side. Phyllis loved laughter and dancing and always appreciated a good joke.Phyllis is survived by her children and their spouses, James and Sandra Murphy of Norwalk, Phyllis and Francis Price of Glastonbury, Eileen and John Gardner of Andover, MA, Peter and Linda Murphy, Marie and J. Michael Sutton, all of Norwalk.

She is also survived by her 11 loving grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 11 AM at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan, with Msgr. William Scheyd celebrating the mass. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk. In lieu of flowers donations in Phyllis’ name may be made to the Norwalk Hospital Foundation, Maple St., Norwalk, 06856
