Martin K. Haran, 88, Korean War veteran

Martin K. Haran, 88, was born in Ireland and was a Darien and Norwalk resident throughout his life.

 

Martin K. Haran, age 88, of Darien and former Norwalk resident, died peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on Friday, May 25, 2012. 

Martin was born on November 6, 1923 in County Sligo, Ireland, the son of the late James and Margaret Maye Haran and has lived locally for most of his life. He was a carpenter for the Darien School System for many years and truly enjoyed building furniture, clocks and other items for his family and friends. 

He was also a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his sister Elizabeth Sherbondy of Norwalk, his brother Joseph Haran of Ireland and many nieces and nephews.  Martin was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.     

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 29, 10:30 AM at St. John Church, 1986 Post Rd., Darien, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk. 

Martin’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Tuesday from 9-10 AM.  Donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 279 New Britain Rd., Suite 5, Kensington, CT, 06037.  For directions or to sign an online guest book, please go to magnerfuneralhome.com
