Maria Mete, 82, Owned Deluxe Bakery in So No

Friends may greet the family on Wed., Jan. 8 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thurs., 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Maria Mete age 82 of Norwalk, beloved wife of the late Anthony D. Mete, Sr. died January 6, 2014 at Ludlowe Health Care Center in Fairfield. 

Mrs. Mete was born in Calabria, Italy on March 5, 1931 and was a daughter to the late Pasquale & Rosa Giampa Vescio. 

Maria and her husband formerly owed the Deluxe Bakery in South Norwalk. She later worked at the Bagel King in Norwalk for many years where she was known as, “the little sweet Italian Lady.” Maria last worked for Stew Leonard’s in the Salad Bar section and was loved by all who met her.

Survivors include two loving daughters, Phyllis A. Parillo of Trumbull, and Rosemarie and her husband Kevin Emro of Norwalk, a loving son Giovanni Mete and his wife Ann of Atlanta, GA; a brother Eugenio Vescio and sister Elvira Mascaro, both of Italy; seven grandchildren, Melissa Donovan & her husband Neil, Caitlin & Michael  Emro, Ashley, Alexis, Rachel and Christina Mete; great-grandchildren Marybeth and Andrew Jay Donovan; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Anthony Mete, Jr.

The family would like to thank all the health professionals including Ludlow Commons in Norwalk, Ludlowe Rehabilitation in Fairfield, Norwalk Hospital and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

“Our mom had a lot of friends and acquaintances and in her most recent months at Ludlowe Rehab. She made instant friends. Mom had a way of treating everyone like her own family. She had a great sense of humor and was described as feisty and strong willed and truly loved all her family.”

Friends may greet the family on Wed., Jan. 8, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in Norwalk’s Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thurs., 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Norwalk.
