Jeanne M. Fachner, 69; Norwalk Resident, Was A Greenwich English Teacher

Jeanne M. Fachner, a Norwalk resident and retired Greenwich Public School teacher, passed on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 69.

Born in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Matthew and Josephine (Mangini) Murphy.

In decades of teaching, Jeanne wore many hats in the Greenwich Public School system as an English/Language Arts teacher, retiring from Eastern Middle School. Devoted to the teaching profession in Connecticut, she served and a teacher mentor, cooperating teacher, member of the Connecticut writing project, and various state and local boards to improve the quality of classroom teachers. After her retirement she became an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport doing what she loved, teaching new teachers. 

She was the wife of Frederick H. Fachner for 30 years. She had a life long love of the water, cooking, and the arts, especially classical music.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Beth I. Pierce and her husband Drew of Dedham, MA and Peter Igneri and his wife Heidi of Colchester, VT; two stepchildren Rebecca Fachner of Gainesville, FL and Rachel Sample of Portland OR; six grandchildren, Aidan and Grady Pierce, Ellis, Cole and Molly Igneri and Dean Sample. She also is survived by her brother Paul Murphy and his wife Maria and their family of Garden City, NY, and Beth and Peter's father John Igneri.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at the First Congregational Church on the Green, Park Street, Norwalk with a reception to follow at the Norwalk Inn on East Avenue.
