Jean was born on March 27, 1935 in Manchester, England, the daughter of the late John and Emily Leicester.  She moved to Canada in 1957, and then came to the United States in 1959.  She was a long time resident of Newtown, CT, where she raised her six children from her first marriage.  While in Newtown, she met and married her second husband, Bob Duckworth.  A few years later, Bob and Jean moved to the Rowayton section of Norwalk, CT, where they have lived for the past 25 years.

Jean had worked as a salesperson in retail businesses, and as a flight dispatcher at Danbury Airport.  In 1989 she founded the Children’s Attic consignment shop in the Tokeneke section of Darien, CT and ran it for the following 12 years.  She then retired and did volunteer work.  She volunteered as a member of the Auxiliary Board at Hilltop Homes senior living center in Rowayton, and as a server at the senior luncheons at the United Church of Rowayton.

She was also a volunteer at the Turnover Shop, a charitable thrift shop in Wilton, CT.  Jean had also been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rowayton Fire Department.  She enjoyed knitting, boating, camping, and growing flowers.

Jean especially enjoyed visiting with her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Bob Duckworth, Jean is survived by her children Stephen Hodge of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Michael Hodge of Bridgewater, NJ, Christopher Hodge of Newtown, CT, Linda Ritt of Virginia Beach, VA,   Beth Basile of Quakertown, PA and Jenny Okamoto of Carmel, IN, and her stepsons Mark Duckworth of Merrimack, NH, and Lee Duckworth of South Kingstown, RI.

Also surviving are her siblings Andrew Leicester of Minneapolis, MN and Sylvia Bowden of Ginestas, France, 21 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 22, at 2:00 PM at the United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Avenue, Norwalk, CT, with Pastor John Livingston officiating.  Burial will be private, in Newtown, CT, and there are no visiting hours.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name may be made to Adopt-A-Dog, Inc, 23 Cox Avenue, Armonk, NY  10504; or Treasure House, 5 Isaacs Street, Norwalk, CT  06850.  To leave an online condolence or more information, please go to www.magnerfuneralhome.com.
