Carver's Katiana Dervil reports on Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD)

By Katiana Dervil, 11th grader at Brien McMahon High School

If you are a student with a passion for the arts, you are well familiar with the stellar reputation of Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD). Students from around the world make their journey to SCAD to perfect their craft or nurture their talent. Although SCAD has campuses in Hong Kong (China), Lacoste (France), Savannah (Georgia – US) and Atlanta (Georgia – US) today, we toured the exquisite campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

The paintings on the wall are magnificently breathtaking! It is amazing to hear that freshman students and current students and alumni did some of the paintings. It is quite clear why students travel from around the world for the SCAD experience.

During our college tour preparation we learned that Carver alumna Sophia Lubin is a proud graduate of SCAD. Sophia is now in Atlanta working with a design company. Sophia joined us after our visit to SCAD. She is planning to further her studies by earning a master’s degree at the International Fashion Academy (IFA) in Paris. The IFA is an international multi-disciplinary fashion school that offers undergraduate and graduate programs in design technique and business.

According to a survey of SCAD’s graduating class of 2012, 91% were employed, furthering their education, or both within 9 months of graduation.
