Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum Opens 2013 Season with Gala and Preview

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum begins its 2013 season with an Opening Night Gala & Exhibitions Preview this Saturday, April 13.

Join theLockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum as it begins its 2013 season with an Opening Night Gala & Exhibitions Preview at the Mansion this Saturday, April 13 at 7:00pm.  Guests will have the opportunity to get a first look the Mansion’s two new exhibits.  What Is It? Technologies and Discoveries of the Victorian Era features 19th century technological and scientific marvels of the Mansion’s heyday.  Steampunk:  Nature & Machine showcases artwork of this neo-retro aesthetic movement that borrows imagery from the Industrial Revolution

     The black tie evening includes cocktails, a silent auction and dinner. There will be a special presentation by history of technology luminary Steven Lubar, Professor of the Departments of American Studies, History, and History of Art and Architecture at Brown University.           

     The Museum Gala is co-chaired by Mimi Findlay of New Canaan and Kim Morque of Rye, New York.  Sponors include David Findlay Jr. Gallery, Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, LLC, Moran Towing Corporation and media sponsor Connecticut Cottages and Gardens.  The Museum’s 2013 cultural and educational programs are made possible by generous funding from the LMMM Distinguished Benefactors: The Xerox Foundation, Klaff’s, Mrs. Cynthia C. Brown and The Maurice Goodman Foundation.  The Museum’s Education Program is made possible in part by a generous donation from AT&T.

     The exhibit, What Is It? Technologies and Discoveries of the Victorian Era, is made possible thanks to a grant from the Connecticut Humanities (CTH), a non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities that funds, creates and collaborates on hundreds of cultural programs across Connecticut each year.  CTH brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to express, share and explore ideas in thoughtful and productive ways. From local discussion groups to major exhibitions on important historical events, CTH programs engage, enlighten and educate.  Learn more by visiting www.cthumanities.org

    What Is It? Technologies and Discoveries of the Victorian Era exhibit opens to the public on April 17th and runs through October 6, 2013.  Steampunk:  Nature & Machine, opens on April 25th and runs until June 15th.
