Gone to the Dogs: Adoptables Pets, Fundraisers & Events

If you're not in a position to adopt a dog or cat, consider donating to the wish list of a local shelter. They need very basic items like cleaning supplies and blankets.

  • Danbury Animal Welfare Society, (DAWS) is holding a "Stuff-a-Truck" Donation Drive on Sat., November 16, from 7:00 am to 7:00pm.  They're looking for with items from their Wish List, which includes kitten and puppy food, wet and dry cat food, cleaning supplies (bleach, latex gloves and paper towels), laundry detergent, new cat beds, and new cat trees/towers.  DAWS is located at 147 Grassy Plain St, Bethel. Tel. (203) 744-3297
  • Sarah is a five-year-old lab mix available from Adopt -A-Dog on the CT / NY line in Armonk. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. Contact Adopt-a-Dog at (914) 273-1674, 23 Cox Ave in Armonk, NY.
  • Willy is a dog being fostered by Cat Assistance in Greenwich. His previous owner stabbed him in Yonkers, but now he's now in a foster situation with a trainer and doing well. He is high-energy, super sweet and quite handsome. Contact Tina at Cat Assistance at tea66@optonline.net
  • The Stamford animal shelter has a Wish List that includes canned cat food, cat litter, canned and dry dog food. Their office can always use laundry detergent, bleach and cleaning products like dishwasher soap and floor cleaner. You can also bring them clean blankets and towels. They are open seven days a week from 8:00a.m.to 4:00p.m.
  • Also at Stamford Animal Shelter, is their dog-of-the-month, Barley: Barley is gentle and loyal boy who loves to ride in cars, and is content to lounge with his owner. He was at the shelter so long, that Outreach to Pets In Need (OPIN), the organization that supports the shelter placed him in a foster home with a volunteer. He'd love to meet his forever person soon so he doesn't have to go back to the shelter. He loves people, but needs a constant reminder to be friendly with other dogs. He is housebroken, up to date on shots, neutered and micro-chipped.

    Barley
is Pets for Patriots eligible, which entitles qualifying military professionals and veterans to discounted medical care for the life of Barley, through partner veterinarians. Contact information is available on Barley's website.
  • Roger is a medium-sized senior Pit Bull Terrier and Labrador Retriever mix available from the New Rochelle Humane Society. Roger was found after he was abandoned by his former family. Fortunately they are able to take him and help him find a new family. He is a gentle and sweet senior. He appears to be house-trained. He would love a family who would take him on walks and he enjoys important snuggle time.

You can meet Roger today. The Humane Society is open seven days a week from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Thursdays from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. For information about how to adopt, contact the Humane Society or visit their website:  New Rochelle Humane Society
