The Kiwanis Club of Weston Foundation recently presented a check for $3,000 to the Bob Macauley AmeriCares Free Clinic of Norwalk to support the clinic’s Pediatric Program.

The clinic, located at 98 South Main Street in Norwalk, provides medical care to pediatric patients on Wednesday afternoons.

On hand for the January 16 check presentation were Kiwanians Rick Amill, Nina Daniel, Dawn Egan and Glenn Van Deusen. Accepting the check on behalf of AmeriCares were Clinic Director Barbara McCabe, APRN, and Assistant Director Linda Russell, RN.

The Bob Macauley AmeriCares Free Clinic of Norwalk is one of four AmeriCares Free Clinics in Fairfield County offering medical care to low-income, uninsured patients. Other locations are in Danbury, Bridgeport and Stamford. The clinic staff is supported by a team of volunteer doctors, nurses, interpreters and screeners and draws on the resources of community hospitals, laboratories and specialists to ensure access to a comprehensive health care delivery system.

“In addition to treating children with acute and episodic illnesses, the Pediatric Clinic provides physical examinations to children whose parents cannot afford the cost of an exam. Without that exam, children might be denied entrance to school and day care,” said Nina Daniel of the Kiwanis Club of Weston Foundation in a release. “This is an enormous service to the community resulting in fewer missed school days for the children, as well as fewer work absences for parents who must stay home with their children.”
