Transgender Day of Remembrance

On Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 pm the Rainbow Task Force of The Unitarian Church in Westport, the Triangle Community Center, and members of the community will observe Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR).  The Unitarian Church in Westport is located at 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport.

TDOR memorializes individuals who have died throughout the world in the previous year because of anti-transgender hatred.

Each November, the worldwide transgender community turns its attention to family, friends and loved ones lost to violence and prejudice. A tradition inspired by the Allston, MA vigil for slain transsexual Rita Hester in 1998, this day has become the worldwide rallying point for a community long under siege. In 2010, TDOR was observed in over 185 cities throughout more than 20 countries.

Please join with us at The Unitarian Church in Westport to remember and mark the passing of transgender and gender-variant individuals – or those perceived to be transgender – who have been murdered because of hate.

For more information about TDOR please contact Amy Rose, amy@ctgay.org.  For information about the Rainbow Task Force contact David Vita, david@uuwestport.org.
