Set in 1907 Norwalk, “Whistleville” is the final segment of the “Ellis Island Trilogy,” which was written by Dramatist Guild member Cheryl E. Kemeny. The play follows the lives of three young women who witness a murder in New York City and come to South Norwalk to hide from the perpetrator. They open a hat shop on Washington Street and become involved in the rivalries between Norwalk and South Norwalk as represented through their Singing Societies. The Hungarian and Italian “Whistleville” communities are featured prominently in the story. Whistleville was the Bouton Street-Lexington Avenue area of Norwalk at the beginning of the 20th century.
