TRAINING YOUR CHILD'S BRAIN: NEUROFEEDBACK AND VISION THERAPY

Is your child working up to his or her potential? Learn about the possible underlying vision and/or brainwave issues that may affect your child’s learning and performance. This workshop will allow parents to learn about two tested yet non-traditional therapies that have benefited many children and adults. Special educator Lori Coda, MS, will explain QEEG Brain Mapping, a technique to measure electrical activity in the brain, and will demonstrate how Neurofeedback (a form of brain exercise) works painlessly and noninvasively to re-train the brain. Behavioral optometrist Dr. Randy Schulman will discuss how vision is much more than just eyesight and how good vision skills are necessary for reading and learning. She will explain how the visual system works, the effects of common (often undiagnosed) problems such as convergence disorder, and how Vision Therapy can strengthen and remediate learning problems.

Ms. Coda is a behavioral/educational consultant and neurofeedback/QEEG specialist who has worked in the field of autism for 25 years. With a Master of Science in Special Education from the University of Long Island and training in T.E.A.C.C.H., she worked as a Special Educator in New York and Connecticut, developing and implementing autism, social skills, behavior modification, and buddy programs. She has been in private practice since 2004, serving as behavioral/educational consultant and running social skills groups in affiliation with Dr. Nancy O’Hara. She received training in Neurofeedback at the EEG Institute and in Listening Therapy and expanded her practice to include children with ADD/ADHD; learning, anxiety and bipolar disorders; processing disabilities; as well as various emotional disturbances. Most recently, Ms. Coda has received additional training from neurophysiology experts at Neurotopia in order to provide Peak Performance Brain Training for the areas of Sports Performance, Business Performance and Academic Excellence. She is also licensed to administer the ImPACT test.

Dr. Schulman graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She graduated with her Doctor in Optometry and Masters in Vision Science degrees from the State University of New York, State College of Optometry. She received her Fellowship in the College of Optometrists for Vision Development and is an Associate member of the Optometric Extension Program. She has lectured extensively on such topics as vision in the classroom, vision and aging, visual difficulties in the developmentally delayed, and lectured and published on vision and autism. She specializes in vision therapy, pediatrics, learning disabilities and preventative and alternative vision care for all ages. Her staff of vision therapists at the Center for Integrated Vision, in Norwalk, and Total Learning and Therapy Center, in Trumbull, have over 30 years of combined experience, providing individualized in-office therapy.
