Creating a Place for Peace

A community event of healing and hope for all ages

Thursday, February 21

Begins at 6:30pm

Best Western Plus Danbury/Bethel

Free of charge

Join your friends, neighbors and community leaders for “Creating a Place for Peace”, a community gathering of healing and hope for all ages.  The event will feature opportunities to enjoy creative projects, story-telling, music, games and traditional social dance.  There will also be a place set aside for quiet reflection and conversation and an opportunity to receive a brief shoulder and neck massage.  Thanks to the generosity of the workshop leaders and the Best Western hotel, all of these offerings are free of charge.

At 8pm four community leaders will share their thoughts about creating a peaceable community.  The panel members are: Mr. Matt Knickerbocker, First Selectman  of Bethel;  Dr. Kathy Gombos, Principal, Johnson School, Bethel; theVenerable Wisdom Sakya, Middle Way Meditation Center; and Allison Fulton, Executive Director, Housatonic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse. The Rev. Laura Westby, Interim Pastor of The First Congregational Church of Bethel, will moderate the discussion.  The Bethel Chamber of Commerce has joined The First Congregational Church of Bethel in co-sponsoring this event.

Rev. Westby stated  “This is not a religious event; we want people of all traditions as well as those unaffiliated with a faith community to participate.  In Colonial times, the Congregational church was often the largest building in town.  As such, it was often used for town meetings and other gatherings.  This is why many Congregational churches their worship space the meetinghouse.  I see this event as one way that FCCB is re-claiming and re-defining its heritage as a community that creates a space for the community to come together for the common good.”

Come and find healing and hope for yourself and your family.  Join your neighbors and fellow Bethel citizens in creating a more peaceable community. Hear what community leaders have to say, then get involved.   See you on February 21 at 6:30pm at the Best Western Plus Danbury/Bethel, 11 Stony Hill Road in Bethel.
