Book & A Movie: "Pavilion of Women"

Book & A Movie celebrates Women's History Month in March with a discussion of Pavilion of Women, a novel by Pulitzer Prize winning author Pearl S. Buck.  Madame Wu, on her 40th birthday, tells her husband that she will find him a concubine to replace her role in intimacy. In turn, Madame Wu will move to a separate quarter of the large home.  She relishes her independence, reading forbidden books despite the uproar her decision causes, until her son's English tutor, a free-thinking priest, changes her life.  The 116-minute movie, starring Willem Dafoe, will follow the book discussion. Participants who want to discuss the book can stay for the movie or participants can choose to only view the movie.  Multiple copies of the book are available at the Branch.  This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Registration is available online or by calling 203.899.2790 x 15902.
