Moccia on Rilling's Involvement with NEON Protest: "Voters should be outraged!"

Press Release from Mayor Moccia's Campaign Office:

Why would a Democrat mayoral candidate join a chanting crowd at City Hall on behalf of the disgraced management of NEON?

NEON is sinking from its own financial irregularities and outrageous executive salary raises, not anything the City did or did not do.

NEON -- a non-city agency -- is currently under scrutiny by the State and Federal governments who provide the bulk of its funding. Yet it was NEON’s highly paid “acting President and CEO” Chiquita Stephenson who at the protest is quoted in The Hour as follows:

“We’re not backing down. We’re going to fight,” Stephenson said. “What you saw here tonight was organized by the families, not NEON.”

Oh really? If it was organized by the families and not NEON leadership, why was NEON’s controversial CEO, Stephenson, there leading the protesters with Harry Rilling?  Harry Rilling says nothing about the scandalous mismanagement at NEON. He is supporting continued funding for NEON to run the Head Start program, which unfortunately NEON itself has mis-managed into the ground.

Instead of grandstanding with NEON management, Harry Rilling should be joining with the City in calling for new and responsible management of Head Start. This program should be about the children and their education NOT NEON and its highly paid employees.

Voters should be outraged that Harry Rilling is aligned with those who have cashed in with big pay raises, while NEON crumbles into financial chaos and Head Start suffers.
