Haven't Registered? You Can Still Cast a Ballot on Nov. 5

Patch stopped by the registrars' office at City Hall on Thursday and met both the Republican Registrar Karen Doyle Lyons and the Democratic Registrar Stuart W. Wells III, who provided a wealth of information.

Here are some fun facts for anyone who wishes to register to vote and cast a ballot on Nov. 5:

You will need to prove both your identity and your residency.

Identity

  • Birth certificate, or
  • Driver's License, or
  • Social Secueity card, or
  • Testimony of another registered voter, or
  • Other satisfactory proof, such as a college ID, etc.

Residential Address

  • Driver's license, or
  • Motor Vehicle learner's permit, or
  • Utility bill (due within 30 days), or
  • College registration or fee statement, or
  • Lease, or property tax bill, or
  • Paycheck, or
  • Library card with residential address

On Election Day, registration must be completed by 8:00p.m., Nov. 5. Being in line at 8:00p.m. is not sufficient.

All voted ballots are placed in privacy envelopes and are processed similar to absentee ballots. If a new voter is transferring from another town in Connecticut, the registrar will contact that town to verify that the new vote has not voted in his or her former town.
