Lieutenant Donald Wakeman said that at 7:58 a.m. Wilton Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 7, near Zion Hill Church at 470 Danbury Road.

Wakeman said that a 1999 Ford Taurus station wagon holding four persons exited the lower driveway of the Zion Hill Church complex area and crossed into the northbound lane, directly in front of a Grasso Brothers Construction 2000 Freightliner dump truck which was travelling northbound. Unable to stop, the truck crashed into the passenger side, injuring all four occupants, police said. All four were transported to Norwalk Hospital. A backseat, left-rear passenger, a 71-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are not revealing her name or residence before notifying the family of the deceased.

The lower driveway that the Taurus had pulled out from leads to the nursing school parking lot, said Wakeman.

There was extrication on the scene due to "extensive damage to the Taurus," said Wakeman.

The victims included a six-year-old in a booster seat located in the right back seat passenger.

The driver of the Taurus is a 91-year old male. The front seat passenger is a 67-year-old male, Wakeman said.

Wakeman said that all those in the Taurus had familial connections.

“At this point we have members of our accident reconstruction team still working on the scene. I expect they’ll be doing work on this for the remainder of the day,” said Wakeman.

The truck driver is a 62-year-old male.

Wakaman said that the road may be open within another hour.

The investigation is open. The driver of the dump truck was shaken up but not injured, according to police.

The Connecticut State Police Truck Squad unit is also on the scene to see if there were truck violations, Wakeman said.

The area between Route 7 and Canon, and Route 7 and Seely are detoured.
