What's Open, What's Closed for Memorial Day Weekend

In addition to the normal Monday holiday closings, The state Department of Motor Vehicles closes at 12:30 p.m. Friday, and the Rowayton Library closes for the weekend at 8 p.m. tonight.

Memorial Day, May 30, is a holiday for federal, state and local governments and just about everybody else in the United States.

The following are CLOSED on Monday, and on other days this weekend, unless noted:

  • Banks have the option of staying open on state and federal holidays in Connecticut. Both Norwalk branches of TD Bank will remain open on Monday: the one at  and the other at (There's just over the Norwalk line on U.S. Route 1 in Darien.)
  • City Hall and Nowalk government offices
  • Public schools
  • Garbage pickup that normally takes place Monday will be postponed to Tuesday (and scheduled garbage pickup for Tuesday will still take place that day). Recycling pickup that normally takes place Monday will instead take place Saturday, June 4. The Norwalk Transfer Station at 61 Crescent St. will be closed on Monday, as will the Yard Waste Station at 15 S. Smith St.
  • Libraries: and the South Norwalk Branch Library will be closed Sunday and Monday but open on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. is open late on Thursday (till 8 p.m.), then closes for the weekend and reopens at 10 a.m. Tuesday. 
  • Post offices close on Monday but are open on Saturdays.
  • State offices, including Department of Motor Vehicles offices, will be closed on Monday. DMV offices will be open Friday, but only from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to the department.
