What's Open, What's Closed on Veterans Day
Schools are open, recycling service continues, but trash pickup doesn't; almost all other government offices are closed.
Veterans Day is considered a federal, state and local holiday.
The following are CLOSED today:
- Banks—nearly all will be closed, although they may open at their discretion
- Garbage pickup—all pickups scheduled for Friday will take place Saturday
- Most libraries, including Norwalk Public Library, the South Norwalk Branch Library and East Norwalk Library (Rowayton Library is open)
- Post offices
- State offices, including the state Department of Motor Vehicles, which will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Norwalk City Hall and city offices
- U.S. government offices
The following are OPEN today:

- Grocery stores
- New York Stock Exchange
- Norwalk city recycling pickup
- Norwalk Public Schools and All Saints Catholic School
- Norwalk Transit District will run on a regular schedule; its office is open; Norwalk-to-Stamford bus service, operated by CT Transit, also runs on a regular schedule, as does the 7 Link Norwalk-to-Danbury bus.
- Restaurants
- Rowayton Library
- TD Bank
- Transfer Station at 61 Crescent St.—open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Yard Waste Site at 15 School St.—open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m
Other businesses: open at the owner’s discretion.

- Veterans Day is not spelled with an apostrophe, as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs explains on its website, because it is a day "for veterans."
- Metro-North employs 669 veterans, about a fifth of its labor force.
