Vigil Held for Navy SEAL Brian Bill [Photos, Video]

Over 100 local and state elected officials, veterans, boy scouts, students and others attended a vigil Saturday at Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford for Brian Bill, a Navy SEAL killed seven days before in Afghanistan.

Family, friends, and classmates of fallen Navy SEAL Brian Bill, as well as local and state representatives were present at Trinity Catholic High School Saturday evening to attend a vigil for Bill, 31, who was killed Aug. 6 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

VFW posts from across CT were also in attendance for the two-hour event that began at 7:30 p.m., and while many of the veterans did not know Bill personally, they showed fervent support for Bill and his family.

Rep. Jim Himes and Mayor Michael Pavia spoke at the vigil, praising Bill's character and sacrifice, but the most moving speech of the evening was from Rev. Richard Futie, one of Bill's childhood mentors, who nearly wept as he spoke of the day that Bill told him that he wished to join the military.
