Valentine's Day 2011: Grand Central Information Station

Here's a summary guide to St. Valentine's Day in Norwalk, with links to things to do, gifts you might want, places to eat, etc., all linked right here to this central spot in cyberspace. Now don't miss your train and just watch your step:

1. Flowers or Chocolate: What's the better gift? Guys, if you don't know which to get her, and you want to make it a pleasant surprise, will be absolutely no help in deciding, but it's fun to watch.

2. Speaking of chocolate and flowers, there's some fine stuff around. And you could get something other than chocolate or flowers.

3. Going out to dinner? There are many with specials on the 14th. Also in Darien. Also in Stamford (see #1). Also in Westport. Also in New Canaan.

4. Entertainment is a great way to forget that chocolate went to the flowers-lover or flowers went to the chocoholic. :

  • “Love’s Funny: An Evening of Sweet and Silly Love Songs,” in Westport, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on St. Valentine's Day.
  • How 'bout a Tango class in Stamford on The Day (see #3)?
  • Or a reading of Neil Simon's "Chapter Two", a romantic comedy, at the Westport Country Playhouse at 7 p.m. on Monday?

5. You , either, on The Day or the weekend before: Flowers are only 29.99 at ShopRite, and restaurants like Meigas and Quecha have discounts up until just after The Day. Theatre Arts Workshop at 5 Gregory Blvd. has at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There's no reservations or admission, although donations are accepted.
