Don't light up your fruit near a police officer without expecting to have a lot of explaining to do—possibly less explaining than a homeowner who holds someone at gunpoint.

In Greenwich, police say a 39-year-old town man caught the eye of an officer who spotted him while driving. According to police, it's not uncommon for people to cut or hollow out an apple to use for smoking illicit drugs. In this case, the man is accused of smoking marijuana out of the fruit, and he now faces drug charges.

In Fairfield, police say a town resident an 18-year-old Norwalk man that the homeowner thought was trying to break into his house. Officers apparently did not believe the teen was trying to burglarize the man's house, because no burglary charges were filed—he was charged with breach of peace. The teen reportedly told police he had been drinking at a party in Westport, and his car was parked a half-mile away from the house where he apparently started making noise around 5:30 a.m., prompting the homeowner to act.

Police said the homeowner had a right to have a gun. "You don't need a permit to have a gun in your home; only to carry it," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman. "People are much more prepared these days. There's a lot of guns in Fairfield."
