Special Craft to Transport Construction Supplies to Norwalk’s Sheffield Island

A special 74-foot beach landing craft will be used to transport construction materials and supplies to ’s for the restoration of the lighthouse and cottage.

The specialized craft — which allows for beach landings — will be on display this Wednesday, March 14, at the town dock in Veteran’s Park in Norwalk, according to a press release from the . Equipment to be loaded onto the vessel will include a mortar mixer, boom lift and pickup truck.

According to the release, the restoration project is funded through a grant from the and will take 2-3 months to complete. The work will not impact the association’s tours of the island, the release states.
