Some Services Restored at Norwalk DMV

Services to be restored at the Norwalk office include knowledge testing; out-of-state driver's license transfers; new non-driver identification cards for non-US citizens; vehicle identification number verifications; and eye tests.

Some of the services that were cut from the Department of Motor Vehicles office in this past summer, when the state budget was still in a state of flux, have been restored as of Jan. 3, the DMV announced today.

Services to be restored at the Norwalk office, located at 540 Main Avenue, include knowledge testing; out-of-state driver’s license transfers; new non-driver identification cards for non-US citizens; vehicle identification number verifications; and eye tests. In addition the department will resume issuance of new commercial driver licenses and acceptance of application packets for public passenger endorsements.

Road testing, however, will not return to the Norwalk office — for that Fairfield County residents will have to go to the DMV office in Bridgeport or Danbury (as well as Hamden, Waterbury, Wethersfield and Willimantic).

“We are very pleased to offer more services in the Fairfield County region,” said DMV Commissioner Melody A. Currey in a release. “There is a need for more services in this part of the state and this change helps address it.”

“Customers have told us they wanted some of the former services brought back and a review of our operations showed we could it,” Currey added.
