Playground at Norwalk's All Saints School Drawing Attention

Equipped with monitors powered by solar arrays and a wind turbine, the unique playground is designed promote an understanding of the physical sciences and energy conservation, not to mention good old-fashioned play.

The at Norwalk’s has reportedly drawn the attention of the Boston office of the U.S. Department of Education and might become a model for future playground designs.

Equipped with monitors powered by solar arrays and a wind turbine, the unique playground is designed promote an understanding of the physical sciences and energy conservation, not to mention good old-fashioned play, according to a report. What’s more, the things children learn from interacting with the playground equipment is expected to reinforce the STEM (science, technology, energy and math) curriculum delivered in the classroom.

The playground is the fruit of a collaboration of school parents and innovators from the Columbia University School of Architecture, Parsons School of Design, LTL Architects and the Stepping Stones Museum for Children, according to the report.

Price Waterhouse reportedly donated $22,000 to the project — and several of the firm’s executives volunteered their time to help with construction. In addition Divine Brothers of Norwalk provided the concrete and perforated pipe for drainage.

As reported on Norwalk Patch, the playground was this past July before installation of the new playground, which was started in August.
