Pedestrian, Bicyclist Safety Topic of Upcoming Public Hearing

The "Pedestrian & Bikeway Transportation Plan," prepared for Norwalk by Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc., recommends reducing the traffic lanes on Calf Pasture Beach Road from four to two, and changing the outer lanes into bicycle-pedestrian-only lanes.

As the continues to to , the Common Council's Public Works Committee has scheduled a public hearing to allow residents to express their concerns regarding current traffic safety conditions in the district.

According to a report in The Hour of Norwalk, the "Pedestrian & Bikeway Transportation Plan," prepared for the City by Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc., recommends reducing the traffic lanes on Calf Pasture Beach Road from four to two, and changing the outer lanes into bicycle-pedestrian-only lanes as a means to improving pedestrian safety. The plan reportedly has the support of area residents and local groups including LivableNorwalk and beachroad­safety.org.

The Committee wants to hear from district residents to gather more input regarding current traffic safety conditions. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 31, in the Common Council chambers of City Hall, 125 East Ave.
