Update 6:27 a.m.:

Don't survive the last snow-sleet-ice storm only to slip on this morning's stealthy black ice or slide your car on it. After all you've been through, dear reader (you poor thing, you), you don't deserve that, do you?

No, we didn't think so, and the National Weather Service, no fair-weather friends they, doesn't think so either, so at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday they issued a "Special Weather Statement" just for you and the rest of the people in the New York metropolitan area, now that life is returning to .

"Black ice will develop, especially on untreated roads and walkways, with refreezing of both standing water and melted snow," the weather service warned in the statement. "Motorists should exercise extreme caution and allow for extra distance while driving, since roads will be slippery."

On top of the special statement, the weather service issued a "Hazardous Weather Outlook" statement at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday about upcoming precipitation:

"Another winter storm is possible on Saturday as low pressure tracks south and east of Long Island," the forecasters said. Near the coast, a mix of rain and snow is expected. "As with some previous (weather) systems, (the storm) track has some uncertainty, so stay tuned to future forecasts."

Besides being icy and freezing cold, with a high temperature of 29 degrees, Thursday is supposed to start out sunny, according to the weather service's 4:53 a.m. forecast today for Norwalk. Skies are expected to remain clear through today and tomorow until sometime overnight Friday to Saturday, when some snow may start falling, mainly after 4 a.m. The chance of precipitation Saturday is 70 percent, according to the forecast.

Late Saturday morning, snow should turn to sleet, and in the afternoon the sleet should give way to rain as temperatures rise. Sound familiar?

About a quarter to a half inch of precipitation should fall in one form or another on Saturday. On Saturday evening there's a chance of snow before 10 p.m. No precipitation is expected Sunday, according to the forecast. For Monday through Wednesday of next week, the weather service says, there's a 30 percent chance of rain, snow or a mixture of both each day and night.
