Awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, the Wendy's High School Heisman, now in its 18th year, has set the standard for high school student-athletes. The award recognizes hard work, dedication and execellence in athletics, academics and community leadership.
National finalists will be featured during a televised ceremony on ESPN networks and will receive gold medals and $2,000 awards for their high schools.
In addition, one male and one female national winner will each receive a Wendy's High School Heisman trophy and a donation from Wendy's in the amount of $10,000 to their high school.
A cross country standout, Madaffari is the son of McMahon athletic director Joe Madaffari.
2. Norwalk Football To Face McMahon on Thanksgiving
The Norwalk-McMahon football game on Thanksgiving is always big. For the Bears, however, this year's game rates as the school's biggest football contest in 13 years.
Norwalk (7-1) can clinch its first state tournament berth since 1998 with a win over the Senators in the annual game, which will be played this year at Jack Casagrande Field on Thursday at 10 a.m.
After an abbreviated nine week schedule, the Bears are sixth in the Class LL rankings. A loss likely would knock them out of playoff contention, although not mathematically.
But if Norwalk falls, there are eight two-loss teams that could jump over the Bears, including FCIAC rivals Greenwich, Ridgefield and even Stamford.
