Norwalk Scores and Standings: June 22

Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh carded an even par 71 Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club to finish fourth in qualifying for the 109th Connecticut Amateur championship.

The 2006 amateur champion, McDonagh posted a 36-hole total of  1-under 141.  He was one of only four players to finish qualifying under par.

Wilton's John Murphy carded his second straight 2-under 69 Tuesday to earn medalists honors.

Murphy's two-round total of 4-under 138 was one better than first-round leader Branden Chicorka,who shot a 1-over 72 after opening with a 67 on Monday.

The top 32 low scores advanced to match play, which gets under way Wednesday with the first and second rounds. The quarterfinals and semifinals are Thursday, leading to the 36-hole finale on Friday.

McDonagh takes on No. 29 seed Brian Ahern of Wampanoag (149) in a first-round match Wednesday morning at 8:10. The second-round match is set for 12:50 p.m

Race Brook's Matt Dziubina carded his second straight 70 on Tuesday, leaving him third at 2-under 142.

Defending champion Bernie D'Amato of Weston posted a 71 Tuesday and finished for fifth at 1-over 143. Also at 143 was Dave Szewczul of Tunxis Plantation.

A junior-to-be at Princeton, D'Amato continued the steady iron play that won him last year’s Connecticut Amateur. He is looking to accomplish the rare feat of repeating as Amateur champion.  The last player to repeat was Will Strickler, who currently plays on the PGA Tour, in 2007-2008.

New Canaan's Curtis Loop, a junior-to-be at Georgetown, carded  a 2-over par 73 Tuesday at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton to finish tied for ninth in qualifying.

Loop posted a 36-hole total of 3-over 145. Also at 145 was Greenwich's David Pastiore, who reached the quarterfinals of match play last year.

Norwalk's Matt Ederle has been named to the  Connecticut Junior Select baseball team, which will play a squad from Massachusetts at Plainville on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Other FCIAC players named to the team include Greenwich's Dylan Callahan and  St. Joseph's Joe Burns. Here is the entire Connecticut roster:

-- Norwalk's Katie Schmidt was named to the All-FCIAC softball first team.

-- The all-towns District One Little League tournament of champions got away on Monday with Ridgefield National defeating Darien American  15-5 in a first-round game.

Quarterfinals in the single elimination event are set for Wednesday, followed by the semifinals on Thursday and the finals on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Norwalk Jaycees won last year's TOC, defeating Rowayton Hose, 4-3.
