Give Blood Mon., Get Free Aquarium, IMAX Tickets

All donors at the American Red Cross blood drive on Monday at the Maritime Aquarium get a free ticket to the aquarium and another for a "classic IMAX movie," as well as a chance for a membership including unlimited family visits for a year.

What a deal: Give blood (go on, you've got plenty of it) on Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Maritime Aquarium, and in return you get a free ticket to the Aquarium and a free ticket to a "classic IMAX movie."

But wait—there's more! All donors get a coupon from Edible Arrangements for a free box of six chocolate-covered fruits.

Donors can also enter a contest to win a trip for two to the Galapagos Islands.

"We don't bite," the American Red Cross says in its flyer for the blood drive. It just pinches—and, really, not very much.

Blood donations are down this time of year, and they really could use some help, the American Red Cross says.

For a slew of groanable puns on sharks, blood and blood-giving which we refuse to inflict on you as a matter of principle (that is, we didn't think them up ourselves), see the American Red Cross website.

The blood drive takes place in the Oyster Room at the aquarium—just go to the aquarium and they'll direct you there.

In mid-July, the American Red Cross announced that it was facing a critical blood-supply shortage: "Many donors are busy or traveling, school is out of session and donations have dropped dramatically. In May and June, while demand for blood products remained steady, donations were at the lowest level the Red Cross has seen during this timeframe in over a dozen years.

"Because of that, the Red Cross needs blood donors now more than ever. All types are needed, but especially O negative, which can be used to treat any patient," according to the announcement.

The announcement also said: "Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate."
