Flood Warning Issued for Fairfield County Through 10:30 AM

Rain today will be on top of 1 to 2 inches that fell overnight, the National Weather Service says in its Flood Warning issued for Fairfield County and other counties to the west.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Fairfield County and counties in New York state and New Jersey, in effect through 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

"Between 1 to 2 inches of rain have fallen during the overnight hours as persistent rain moves through the area," the weather service warns. "Numerous [instances] of road closures due to flooding have been reported." 

"Steam rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected," it says. "However, all interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately."

A Flood Warning from the National Weather Service means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.

Meanwhile, the service's forecast for Norwalk (last updated at 7:15 a.m.) says there is a chance of additional showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Other counties named in the flood warning include three in New York state: Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties, and five counties in northeast New Jersey.
